Costco is a store that many enjoy visiting and there are plenty of members in the Magic Valley. It is great to be able to buy certain things in bulk, eat free samples, or get some food in the food court. The one negative to Costco is that they are typically crowded and parking can be a nightmare. Finding the right time to go is key to having a successful visit or a little bit more of a frustrating one. While Costco has some well-known rules, such as being a member, there are some unspoken ones that many may not know, and perhaps you have broken one or two of them without knowing. Here are some things you might want to know about before your next visit to the popular store.

Costco Rules You May Not Know

When it comes to shopping at Costco, there are some unspoken rules, that many do not know or choose not to follow. They are more guidelines out of respect than rules, but most people try to follow them. One of the main rules is when it comes to free samples. It is not a buffet for shoppers to eat a free meal but instead is meant for one sample per person. It is ok to take a few and take them to your family or friends elsewhere in the store, but standing there and eating them or cutting in front of those that have been waiting, is not ok. Another rule is when it comes to the eating area and getting a table. Everyone has their own rules when it comes to getting a table. Some think if a cart is next to one, it is theirs, even if no one is sitting there, while others think you must have a body at the table to save it. If no butt is in the seat, then the table is open.

A customer at Costco in the Magic Valley had an incident when it came to getting a table in the food court at Costco. They saw a table had nobody sitting at it, but after sitting down, were told the table was saved because a couple had their cart next to it. Who was right and who was wrong here? The person saw nobody at the table, and with no butts in the seat, it should mean the table is open. The couple with the cart had it next to the table, but how was the customer supposed to know? Carts are left sitting all over the store every day. Does a cart reserve a table or does a person need to be present? If both view saving seats differently, who would be right here? I would lean towards agreeing with the customer who sat down because nobody was at the table, and as many of us know, if a table is open at Costco, you take it, as they can be hard to come by. If you want a seat, then someone should be present.

The next time you are at Costco, make sure to be mindful of your fellow shoppers and don't hog the free samples, or steal tables from waiting customers. As long as you are respectful of your fellow shoppers, the experience at Costco should be good for everyone. Sadly, not everyone obeys these unspoken rules, and one bad shopper can ruin it for many.
