Shirley Temple passed away Monday (Feb. 10) at the age of 85.

The actress brought light to the dark days of the Great Depression, her ringlet curls and sweet dimples quickly making her one of the most iconic child stars in the history of entertainment. Country-pop star Taylor Swift, also a highly talented young performer, is just one of many to remember the much-loved ‘curly top’ actress and U.S. ambassador.

“Sitting backstage at the O2 in London, thinking about what an impressive and extraordinary life Shirley Temple led. Thanks for the memories,” Swift writes.

Temple passed away due to natural causes at her Woodside, Calif. home, ScreenCrush reports.

No doubt, Swift was one of millions impacted by Temple’s delightful onscreen charm, which she showcased in numerous films in the 1930s and beyond. Those movies including ‘Bright Eyes,’ ‘Curly Top,’ ‘Heidi,’ ‘The Little Princess’ and so many more.

Although the actress’ child stardom ended when she was 12 years old, Temple didn’t retreat to a private life. Instead, she enjoyed a long and successful career as a diplomat thanks to her husband Charles Black, whom she wed in 1950 (following a short first marriage). The couple enjoyed 55 years of love before he passed away in 2005.

Temple was appointed to the United Nations team and would later become an ambassador for Ghana and Czechoslovakia.

Every country fan knows that Swift is inspired by love — and Temple’s long marriage and impressionable life is nothing short of inspirational. As the world reacts in sadness to Shirtley Temple’s death, Swift remains impacted by the former child actress’ view on love, and commemorated Temple’s words in her journal:
