Kayaker’s Body Recovered from Snake River
RUPERT, Idaho (KTVB/AP) -- The body of a kayaker has been recovered from the Snake River below Minidoka Dam in south-central Idaho.
Authorities tell The Times-News that rescue workers on Sunday recovered the body of 56-year-old Steven Andrew of Rupert.
Cassia County Undersheriff George Warrell says authorities received a report at 3:45 p.m. of a kayaker in distress.
Swift water and rocks prevented a rescue boat from approaching.
Rescue workers reached Andrew at about 5:45 p.m. by wading from rock to rock.
Warrell says Andrew was wearing a life vest and was carrying fishing poles. It's not clear what happened.
An autopsy is planned.
