With almost a full month of 2024 behind us, it might be time to reevaluate any resolutions or goals you set at the beginning of the year. If you find yourself falling behind, you aren't alone and if you haven't set any goals - it's not too late. But you do have to have a reasonable and achievable plan to succeed.

Quitting or starting something outright without a comprehensive plan ahead of time will most likely fail within the first week. Weight loss, changing diet, and improving fitness goals are all fine, but again, without support and planning, most will be tossed away in defeat before the end of the winter season.

If the goal is to make some big claim to impress other people, the resolution will most definitely fail. They are going to do something, so you do it bigger? That probably won’t work. A resolution to make other people happy is doomed for failure as well.

How Can You Make a Resolution and Stick to It?

Nationally, about 80 percent of resolutions fail. Plenty of people want to feel better and live better, but making that work out in the real world instead of just an idea is tough. A resolution needs to have a basis for yourself in the plan. What is it that you would like to achieve to make yourself happier, healthier, or perhaps both?

Be specific, go with something you can achieve. If it works out, build on it throughout the year, or make the next step the next year’s resolution. Write down a resolution and the plan to make it happen. Like saying something out loud will help you remember it, writing the resolution down makes it tangible. Getting backup is always helpful. If family or friends know what you are trying to do, they may be able to support you in your endeavor.
