BOISE (KTVB) – A Boise man found walking near a house fire on Hill Road Thursday night has been charged with arson, and investigators believe he may be connected to two other house fires in the area.

Patrick Irving, 34, was booked into the Ada County Jail on the felony charge.

Fire crews were called to a house fire at 6720 Hill Road just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday after neighbors reported a fire and hearing shots. It was later learned that the resident of the home fired a warning shot into the ground to scare the man away who tried lighting the house on fire.

It was the second time they had been called to that address. Earlier in the day, around 1:30 a.m., someone had tried to set the same home on fire by lighting a pile of debris next to the garage door.

On the first call, the people who live at the home were able to extinguish the fire before it spread. On the second call Thursday night, they were assisted by Boise Fire crews. No one was hurt.

Irving was spotted near the Thursday night house fire, and was "acting suspiciously," according to the Ada County Sheriff's Office.

He was stopped by a Garden City Police officer who noticed the strong odor of petroleum and saw Irving's clothes had burns.

Irving is no stranger to police. He was arrested a week ago for trespassing at a vacant home in the 6700 block of Hill Road. He was booked on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful entry. He posted a $300 bond and was released from jail that day.

Fire investigators are trying to determine if was involved in two other houses fires on Hill Road since Tuesday. There is evidence all were arson.

On Tuesday, a fire badly damaged a different house in that block. Firefighters said then that efforts to extinguish it were complicated by the scarcity of hydrants in the area.

Officials have not released any motive for the arsons.

Irving is charged with first-degree arson and is set to appear in court Friday afternoon. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
