Many murders and deaths have taken place throughout the history of the country. Some historic ones stick out that have changed the history of the world. Imagine if Abraham Lincoln had never been shot, or if John F. Kennedy hadn't been killed. The events that took place on September 11, 2001, changed how airport security is run going forward. While these are only some iconic violent moments, there are a few in the last 30 years that have changed history as well, and they ironically have one thing in common. There is no good time to kill someone, but there is a time of year when killing seems to be more popular than the rest of the year, and that time is right now.

The Virginia Tech shooting, the Columbine shooting, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Boston Marathon bombing, the Philadelphia stabbings, and other events all have one thing in common. They all happened in April. As the calendar has now changed to April, it marks the beginning of the killing season. Why is it that some of the most horrendous acts and killings have all taken place in the same month? Is it a coincidence, or is there a reason for the season of killing?

April is the Season of Killing

Why is April the season of killing? Coincidence is the most obvious answer, but with so many cases of major shootings, bombings, and other acts of violence around the same time, that seems like a lazy answer. Some experts believe it is due to copycatting, by trying to reenact a violent act from the past around the same time. In certain states, it could be cabin fever. After being locked up inside for a long winter, some lose their minds and plot violent crimes, until the weather allows them to get out and strike. This would not be a valid excuse in much of California. It is tax season, and many may feel angered towards the government, and look to take out their frustrations. It is also the biggest gap on the calendar without a holiday or built-in extended weekend. Could the lack of time off from work take its toll and cause some to act out? There is no defined reason, but April is a month of violence in history.

As the month ticks on by, take a breath, relax, and don't let the stress of life get to you. You don't want to end up on the wrong side of history. Nobody that committed one of the violent crimes above had a good ending, and it isn't worth it. If you feel the urge to be violent during the killing season this year, find a way to take out your anger in another manner. Get a punching bag, pray, meditate, do yoga, or do something else. There is never a reason to kill.
