It's superhero news mania over at Comic-Con 2014, and ahead of tomorrow's official Marvel Studios panel in Hall H comes word that director James Gunn will indeed be returning to write and direct a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' sequel -- as if it could happen any other way.
It seems that there's no shortage of job offers for Edgar Wright. Following his departure from Marvel over creative differences on 'Ant-Man,' the director has already gotten back to work -- first with his long-gestating project 'Baby Driver,' and now he's locked his second job: adapting the Young Adult novel 'Grasshopper Jungle,' which sounds like just the kind of weird and wild stuff we want to see from Wright.
One of the shows we're looking forward to most is Marvel's new 'Agent Carter' series, based on the character from the 'Captain America' films. At the Marvel TV panel this evening at Comic-Con 2014, the studio revealed that 'Agent Carter' will definitely have some familiar help behind the scenes as 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' directors Joe and Anthony Russo will direct two episodes, while Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito will handle the pilot.
Although we won't see the official 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' panel at Comic-Con 2014 until tomorrow, we do have a bit of early news regarding the Warner Bros. and DC movie universe: 'Batman v Superman' writer Chris Terrio has been set to write the script for Zack Snyder's 'Justice League' movie. Big surprise, right?
'Game of Thrones' may not have any new footage to show us at Comic-Con 2014 (they haven't even started filming season 5 yet!), but they didn't show up empty-handed. The HBO series revealed the addition of a few new cast members for the upcoming season, which will see some of the action take place in Dorne, home of the late Prince Oberyn Martell.
Sam Raimi was on hand at Comic-Con 2014 today for the Screen Gems panel, where he discussed his involvement in the upcoming adaptation of the 'Last of Us' video game. But that's not all he discussed: seems like Raimi isn't quite done with 'Evil Dead,' the film franchise that kickstarted his career. While we won't be seeing another Raimi-directed 'Evil Dead' film anytime soon, we will be seeing more 'Evil Dead' ... on the small screen.
Following his wild success with AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' comic book creator and series executive producer Robert Kirkman is bringing another one of his books to the small screen: Kirkman is developing a pilot of 'Outcast,' his new comic book series which takes the writer from the realm of zombies to the world of demonic possession.
In the last year, Scarlett Johansson has voiced a sentient operating system in Spike Jonze's 'Her' and played an alien striving to understand humanity in Jonathan Glazer's jarring 'Under the Skin.' This week, she tackles a different kind of sci-fi with 'Lucy,' a film that carries some of the same thematic DNA as her previous roles, though it isn't quite as intellectual -- nor is it as brainy as its titular character. But thanks to Johansson, the film prevails, giving us a wild and delightfully weird entry in the Scarlett Johansson Sci-Fi Collection.
Move over, Marvel -- it's time for DC and Warner Bros. to have some fun at Comic-Con 2014. One of the movies we can't wait to hear more about this week is 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' and director Zack Snyder has just teased a new look at Ben Affleck's Batman from the upcoming film.
Although he starred in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, Daniel Radcliffe is just now making his San Diego debut at Comic-Con 2014 this week. Ahead of his visit, we have a brand new poster for his upcoming horror flick 'Horns,' which displays his startling new head accessories.
One of the films to gain a lot of buzz at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year was 'Whiplash,' an intense indie drama starring Miles Teller as a young man pursuing a career as a jazz drummer. And if that doesn't sound like it would be very riveting, let this first trailer persuade you.
We've known for a little while that Marvel is taking a break from 'Iron Man' after three films with star Robert Downey Jr. And while they will likely make another 'Iron Man' in the future, it hasn't been clear if Downey Jr. would don the suit again. In a new interview, the actor and star of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' hints that he's not quite ready to give it up.
