‘SNL’ Veteran Jan Hooks Passes Away at 57
We've got some sad news today as we've learned that Jan Hooks, former star of 'Saturday Night Live,' has passed away at the age of 57. Hooks, who was a member of the cast from 1986 to 1991, also starred on the hit sitcom 'Designing Women,' and more recently played Jenna's mom on episodes of '30 Rock.'
‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Premiere Review: “Monsters Among Us”
'American Horror Story' returns for a fourth season, taking us under the tent with perhaps its least subtle outing yet, introducing us to the oddities of the 'Freak Show,' led by Jessica Lange's glamorous Elsa Mars. Subtlety has never been creator Ryan Murphy's strong suit, but Murphy (who also wrote and directed tonight's premiere) seems to have fully embraced that approach, delivering what appears to be both the most horrifying and joyful season yet.
‘Adventure Time’ Gets the Inevitable Gritty Reboot Treatment
Nowadays it's common for studios to take the beloved properties from our youth and update them into new movie franchises -- hell, they're even doing it with old board and video games. So it makes sense for someone to jump ahead of the curve and imagine what a gritty reboot of 'Adventure Time' might look like, and the results are actually quite charming.
Update: All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot Reuniting Paul Feig with Writer of ‘The Heat’
Rejoice! While we've known for a while that 'Bridesmaids' director Paul Feig would be helming the upcoming female-centric 'Ghostbusters' reboot, today we have another development: not only is Feig directing the reboot, which will definitely be a separate entity from the original 'Ghostbusters' films, but the project will re-team him with Katie Dippold, who wrote the screenplay for Feig's buddy cop comedy 'The Heat.' This is pretty much the best news since, well, the news that we're getting an all-female 'Ghostbusters' movie.
Here’s 10 Vampire Movies That Truly Suck
'Dracula Untold' is hitting theaters this weekend*, and truth be, uh, told, it doesn't look that great. But it could be worse -- a whole lot worse. Cinema has a rich history with blood-suckers, and thanks to the over-saturation in the genre, it's quite rare to see a great vampire film. For every good one, there's at least 10 not-so-good vampire flicks. Honestly, it was hard to choose just 10 because there are some real stinkers out there. As a disclaimer, we kept 'Twilight' out of this because it was just a little too obvious. We all know it's awful, we don't need to beat a dead sparkle-horse.
*Does Dracula's story really need to be told again? Yeah, dude, we get it.
‘Horrible Bosses 2′ Trailer: Business Is Hard, Kidnapping Is Harder
A new, full trailer for 'Horrible Bosses 2' has arrived, and in it we see just what it is that has driven our favorite bad co-workers/besties to such horrible lengths this time around: turns out, being an entrepreneur isn't as easy as you might think, and neither is kidnapping ... or, uh, "kidnaping." They're not so great at spelling, either.
‘Inherent Vice’ Trailer: Joaquin Phoenix Stars in One Seriously Wild Detective Story
The first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's highly anticipated 'Inherent Vice' has finally arrived online, and this is definitely not your average detective story. Based on Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel of the same name, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the unorthodox detective Doc Sportello (yes, really), who gets mixed up in a convoluted and totally out-there crime tale.
Jeff Goldblum’s Commercial For Light Bulbs Will Help You Look Like Jeff Goldblum
Have you ever wondered how Jeff Goldblum looks like Jeff Goldblum? You're in luck. Thanks to this amazing new commercial for GE lighting, of all things, we now know Goldblum's secret. He's just so handsome because he's lit so well. And you can look this good too, or make your husband/boyfriend/significant other/rando you take home from the bar look as good as the Blum if you invest in some smart lighting.
‘Avengers 2′ Official Plot Synopsis Gives Us a Hint of Vision
Although we've known quite a bit about what to expect from 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' for a while now thanks to this thing called The Internet and to the rather excellent Marvel panel at Comic-Con 2014, tonight Marvel has finally revealed the official plot synopsis for the upcoming superhero super-sequel -- among the details you'll find a little nugget about Vision, a new character, but one with which fans will already be familiar.
‘Bourne’ Franchise to Reunite Matt Damon and Director Paul Greengrass
Well that didn't last long, did it? With the conclusion of the original 'Bourne' trilogy, director Paul Greengrass said there wasn't really anywhere else for Jason Bourne to go in the franchise, hence the Jeremy Renner spinoff 'The Bourne Legacy.' But it looks like Greengrass and star Matt Damon have come up with an idea to put Jason Bourne back into action.
‘Christian Mingle’ Trailer: Holy Crap, This Is a Real Movie
Christian movies are kind of a big deal right now, so it sort of makes sense, we guess (?), for dating website ChristianMingle.com to get in on the action with their very own film -- no, actually it makes absolutely no sense at all, but here is the trailer for 'Christian Mingle,' a film directed by Corbin Bernsen, of all people, and starring former Mean Girl Lacey Chabert opposite some guy suffering from Average White Guy face.
