Apple Set To Release iOS 5 Today
Every time I check my iPhone today I’m greeted with at least three new app updates. Major apps like Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, and iBooks have seen updates today as Apple prepares to unleash iOS 5 and iCloud on the world.
This is the revolutionary new operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch that Steve Jobs demonstrated before his death. Featuring over 200 new features, including the Cloud, this is a major overhaul to the iOS software and the first one that will be current on all cellular carriers (AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint).
In anticipation of the iOS update, Apple released a new version of iTunes today. 10.5 has all the nifty little features that will play well with the new iOS update tomorrow, and some you can start using today like the Cloud. If you purchased any content from the iTunes store–apps, movies, books, TV shows, or music–you can download them on any device you authorize, for free. This new version of iTunes is also the first that isn’t tied to Quicktime. The update is available now, for free, from Apple.
Just a heads up though: if you’re expecting the voice assistant Siri on your iPhone tomorrow, you’ll be disappointed. This new feature of iOS 5 is only available on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The rest of us don’t have a fast enough processor.
Will you be updating tomorrow? I believe there’s enough in iOS 5 to make it worth it for everyone. I know my Verizon iPhone 4 will be.
