Oakley Hunter Found Dead in East Idaho

SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (KLIX)-Eastern Idaho authorities say an Oakley man found dead may have suffered a medical event while hunting on October 31 when the family reported him overdue.

According to the Caribou County Sheriff's Office, 79-year-old Paul Schiffman was found several miles north of Soda Springs on November 1, after the family had reported him missing the day before. The sheriff's office said Schiffman had left home to hunt elk in the Diamond Creek Zone; cellphone records were able to place his last point before losing service.

Search by air was able to locate Schiffman's Chevrolet Suburban on a ridge between Slug Creek Rd and Dry Valley, shortly after search crews were able to find Schiffman. The sheriff's office said in a statement that the man appeared to have harvested an elk and had started to process it when he suffered a medical condition and died.
