Idaho is presently acting as the wedge between two states awaiting the results of an annual animal beauty contest. Blindness doesn't matter in this contest, and the results will be released any time now.

I've heard of some bizarre contests that are held every year in different parts of the world. For instance, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and China have held farting contests over the past decade. England also holds an annual Extreme Ironing Contest, which is a real head-scratcher.

I might be in the minority on this one, but I just don't view these creatures as "cute," or "pretty."

The Bureau of Land Management is holding its Fifth Annual Bat Beauty Contest. The results are due to be released on the agency's Facebook page anytime now between a specimen from Oregon and Utah. Oregon bats have won the last three contests dating back to 2021, according to centraloregondaily.com.

Oregon's representative, known as "Sir-Flaps-A lot," and Utah's hopeful, "Hoary Potter," dive-bombed into the final round earlier this week. The contest was created as a celebration of the Halloween season, according to online sources.

I have numerous bats that live in the trees on my property, and I have to say that none of them are competition-ready in my eyes. I might be in the minority on this one, but I just don't view these creatures as "cute," or "pretty." They are helpful with controlling the bug population, but that's where I draw the line with bats.

For those of you who do adore these winged, disease-carrying creatures, feel free to keep checking the Bureau of Land Management's (Oregon) Facebook page to find out who won this year. The results should be published at some point on October 31.

Happy Halloween!

How To Carve A BSU Broncolantern

For some people, there isn't a wrong time to show your team spirit and that is where the BSU Broncolantern comes in. It is part Halloween decoration and part 'my team is better than your team' decoration.
