If you have a bucket list and you’ve never been to Yellowstone National Park, put it on your list. And place it near the top.

Then, while you’re there plan on spending some time at night near the most famous of all the geysers: Old Faithful.

Most People Don’t Get to See Old Faithful at Night

There’s a video circulating online, thanks to Andy Austin Photo on TikTok, showing an incredible timelapse video of Old Faithful erupting at night with the Milky Way shining bright in the background.

I’ve been to Yellowstone National Park a handful of times and we always leave the park before dark, so I’ve never experienced it like this.

While the sight is amazing and definitely something that would be glorious to see in real life, the second best part of the video is in the comment section. There are 2 comments that capture what a scenario like that feels like and the mindset of different types of people. One comments on the fact that this beautiful event happens so often and nobody sees it except for a few humans and an occasional bison. The other comment made me question for a moment if the person thought they turned the geysers off at night.

To be clear, in case there are questions, the park rangers do not turn off the geysers at night and then back on in the mornings. They are natural geysers and go off whenever they want.
