In March of 2023, a tragic 2-vehicle accident on an Idaho highway took the lives of 2 women. The women who died were passengers in the vehicles while the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals. One of those drivers has been charged and found guilty of vehicular manslaughter for the deaths.

The driver who caused the accident, Andrew D. Blanchard who was 41 years old at the time, was sentenced following a trial by jury in early November. The 2 counts of vehicular manslaughter are misdemeanors. Blanchard was sentenced to 360 days in jail followed by 4 years of probation and his driver’s license will be suspended for 10 years.

Blanchard will also be required to participate in a drug court program since substance abuse was considered a contributing factor in the accident. He tested positive for methamphetamine on the day of the accident.

Details of the Deadly Accident on I84 Near Blackfoot

The fatal crash happened on March 26th, 2023 on I84 near Blackfoot. According to the police report, Blanchard drove his Lincoln Navigator across the median into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota RAV4 head-on.

A passenger in each vehicle was killed in the crash, a 38-year-old female in the Lincoln and an 18-year-old female in the Toyota.

According to East Idaho News, the trial took one day and the jury deliberated for 17 minutes before coming to a decision.
