There have been 4 fatal accidents in Idaho already this month. The weather has been nice, and the roads have been packed with people trying to get out to enjoy the rays of sunshine.

With the additional traffic on Idaho roads has come an added danger to travelers.

10 People Have Already Died on Idaho Roads in May

The high number of fatalities this month is largely due to an accident on Friday that involved a Yellowstone tour bus, where 7 people were killed. After that, the weekend was filled with 3 more fatal crashes.

A motorcycle rider was killed when they were struck by a Subaru near Spirit Lake. Another motorcycle rider was killed in a crash on SH41 after striking a minivan. In the third accident, a female passenger was killed when a box truck crossed the center line and hit the vehicle she was in.

Idaho State Police have shared details on each of the tragic accidents. We have brief recaps of each accident below.

100-Year-Old Driver Injured in Car Accident on Idaho Highway

ISP reports that a motorcycle rider was killed in an accident on SH41 in Blanchard. The accident happened on May 5th, a few minutes before 12:30 PM:

A 100-year-old female driver from Blanchard, Idaho, was traveling southbound on State Highway 41 in a brown 1998 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Clagstone Road.

Simultaneously, a 59-year-old male, also from Blanchard, Idaho, was traveling northbound on State Highway 41 at a high rate of speed on a Suzuki motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the minivan.

The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and passed away at the scene of the crash. The driver of the minivan was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Washington Truck Driver Crossed Center Line on Idaho Highway, Killing Female Passenger in Crash

On Saturday morning, ISP responded to a crash on US 12 in Idaho County. A female passenger was killed in the crash, as reported by the ISP:

A 60-year-old man from Des Moines, Washington, was driving a white 2021 International box truck eastbound on US12. While negotiating a right curve, the driver crossed the double yellow painted barrier line and entered the westbound lane.

A 59-year-old man from Middleton, Idaho, was driving a 2023 Hyundai Palisade westbound on US12. There was a 54-year-old female passenger from Middleton, Idaho, who was riding in the back seat of the Hyundai.

The two vehicles collided on the curve.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash, but the female passenger passed away, despite wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Motorcycle Rider Killed in Crash Near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Idaho State Police were called to the scene of a deadly accident on Friday night near Spirit Lake on State Highway 54.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2022 Honda, touring style motorcycle, driven by a 61-year-old female from Spirit Lake, Idaho, was traveling westbound on SH 54 near Coeur d’Alene Dr.

A 2014 Subaru SUV, driven by a 23-year-old male from Spirit Lake, Idaho, who had been traveling eastbound on SH 54, failed to yield the right of way, began to make a left turn onto northbound Coeur d’Alene Dr, and crashed into the Honda.

The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, and the driver of the Subaru was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.

Each accident is being investigated by Idaho State Police.
