JEROME, Idaho (AP) — South-central Idaho officials say a 6-year-old girl who fell asleep on a school bus on the way to class spent several hours alone before being spotted by firefighter wandering on a road. The Times-News reports that the Jerome firefighter called police at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall says the girl had on a coat and wasn't injured. He says a deputy gave the girl a ride to Horizon Elementary School.

North Side Bus Co. officials say the bus driver has been fired for failing to do a post-trip inspection after parking at a bus barn. Jerome School District officials say staff is supposed to call parents if a student doesn't show up, but that call hadn't been made.
