We've been waiting to see more of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z since it was announced, and this latest trailer certainly doesn't disappoint in showing more gameplay footage. It's the rest of the content that's a major let down.

Yaiba centers around a protagonist of the same name. He's a ninja soldier who was killed by Ryu Hayabusa during one of the Ninja Gaiden games, and has been rebuilt like the Six Million Dollar Man. He's faster, stronger and has some new abilities thanks to cybernetic attachments like his arm and eye. The cel shaded style looks impressive, and the action on display in the footage above looks appropriately brutal and bloody.

Unfortunately, the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Yaiba frequently treats his female handler like garbage, at points referring to her as "sugar tits," and asking if his cybernetic eye can see through her clothes. It's all very Dostoyevsky. There's even a great moment when a massive billboard of a woman's spread legs has a truck drive right into the sweet spot. Thirteen year-olds around the world will certainly find plenty to laugh at. The rest of us? Not so much.

It's a shame the amazing presentation had to be dragged down by such sophomoric writing. Perhaps this trailer isn't indicative of the final product's narrative or characterization, but we're not going to hold out hope that's true. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will be out on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 6, 2014.
