An associate of mine was in town yesterday so I met him for lunch.  When it came time to order dessert, I passed but he said that I “just had to try” the apple crisp with ice cream.  Again, I declined.  He went ahead and ordered and asked the waitress to bring two spoons.

Say what?  Sharing off of a plate with my wife is one thing but a co-worker?  There was no way that was going to happen. Maybe I’m weird but I simply cannot picture myself eating apple crisp alamode with one of my buddies.  What’s next, do we start feeding each other?  I’m not a germaphobe either; it just felt odd to me.

I’ve been thinking about other occasions where I might be inclined to eat with someone off the same plate.  Here are some scenarios:

  1. With my wife?  Absolutely.
  2. With one of my guy friends or associates?  No way.
  3. With a female friend or associate?  Nope.  It just doesn’t feel right.

My wife says that I should pull the stick out and that she shares desserts with her girlfriends all the time.  It wouldn’t be the first time that I’m the big freak in the bunch.  Do you think it’s weird that I’m not comfortable eating off the same plate as someone else?
