Wind Energy Company attempting to Block Data on Bird Deaths

WASHINGTON (AP) — A wind-energy company is suing in federal court to block the government from releasing information to The Associated Press about how many birds are found dead at its facilities. The AP sought the information from the Interior Department in March 2013 under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. It is part of the AP's investigation into bird deaths at wind farms. Wind energy companies objected, including Pacificorp of Portland, Oregon. They said the information was confidential, submitted voluntarily and should not be revealed.

Last month, the government informed Pacificorp and other wind companies that it intended to release some information to the AP. The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Utah said the information release will cause "irreparable harm" to Pacificorp, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
