They've performed together before, they're both young country artists, and they just finished an 'American Idol' run that ended with him in first place and her in second, so it's only natural to ask: Have Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina talked about recording a duet now that they're labelmates?

"Yeah, we have," says McCreery, although Alaina adds,"We need to establish ourselves as artists first ... hopefully down the road, if we're still around, we'll put [out] something together."

The freshly minted recording artists were recently in Nashville for the 2011 CMA Music Fest, and used part of their visit to meet with label executives at the Universal Music Group to discuss their upcoming albums. Incorporating new material into their performances will be a change of pace for McCreery and Alaina, who spent several months wooing audiences with cover versions of well-known songs.

"It's kind of scary that we're going to have to come out with our own songs that nobody's ever heard and see how people react," admits Alaina.
