BOISE, Idaho (AP) — U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say fire crews are fighting a couple of new wildfires, including one that quickly raced across about 15 ½ square miles of grass and brush in southwest Idaho.

The Idaho Statesman reports that hot, dry temperatures and wind complicated the fire control efforts Thursday. BLM spokesperson Carrie Bilbao says the largest of the fires, the North Highway 52 Fire, was reported burning about 6 miles north of Emmett and was estimated at 10,000 acres by Thursday night.

No evacuations were expected. The fire was burning on both private and BLM lands. Bilbau says a large bird that hit a power line is believed to have started that fire, reported at mid-day Thursday.
