Those hoping to hack on their GamePad are going to be sad to hear about a recent setback for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs.

According to Kotaku, during Ubisoft's earnings call today, the publisher announced that the Wii U version of Watch Dogs is going to be pushed back to a later release date. For a game that is all about hacking smartphones and tablets, it's rather discouraging to hear. Hopefully it's to further the GamePad's interactivity with Watch Dog's mechanics.

Watch Dogs was originally intended to come out this past holiday season in time to launch with next-gen consoles, but was delayed at the 11th hour. Ubisoft revealed the new release timeframe would see the PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions arrive sometime between April and June of this year.

The Wii U hasn't been having the best of times with third-party support, and Ubisoft was actually one of the biggest partners pushing for the console to succeed. However, there's been little reason for Ubi to continue spending valuable assets on a port that won't hit the largest possible audience. For now, Watch Dogs is merely delayed, but we'll have to keep our fingers crossed this isn't an omen of something more disastrous (like an outright cancellation) in the future.
