It's hard to believe that only a few short months ago, NBC comedies 'Whitney' and 'Community' were both banished to the Friday night wasteland, presumably to burn off their final seasons. Then, NBC stepped in to rescue both by delaying their returns in favor of greater promotional pushes, but to date only 'Whitney' has seen the light of day. Now NBC seems to be placing additional faith in 'Whitney,' ordering additional episodes for the series, but will 'Community' recieve the same treatment?

Mixed news for fans of NBC comedies today, as Deadline reports that NBC has granted an additional episode order to the critically derided 'Whitney.' Sources say the order has been expanded by three episodes, bringing the combined total to 16 for the show's second season. Previously the show's demise had been seen as imminent, being relegated to Friday night along with 'Community,' and now filling the spot left by 'Animal Practice.'

NBC's decision comes after 'Whitney' drew a 1.4/4 in the 18-49 demographic, matching its season high and up 8% versus the previous week. What 'Community' fans no doubt hope is the network will have the same generosity toward the show's upcoming February 7 return, though it can be difficult to say considering 'Community's' later start date and more involved production.

Well, what say you? Do you think 'Whitney' has made an improved enough effort to garner three additional episodes? Would the additional order be better spent on 'Community'? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
