The Christmas season is indeed a time for giving. It's also a time to show everyone on your block that when it comes to, as Clark Griswold put it, "Exterior Illumination," the neighborhood isn't big enough for the both of us.

It didn't take long for me to find out that I had serious competition in the holiday decorating department from my next door neighbor upon moving here last October. In the weeks leading up to Christmas in 2016, we spent weekends driving around the county house-hopping, in search of the best decorated homes. I was immediately impressed with the efforts, and spirit, of area residents.

The website, Only In Your State, awarded a top ten finish last year for the "11 Best Christmas Lights Display in Idaho," to a residence on Twin View Lane, in Twin Falls. While I don't have the money to compete with some these holiday-high-rollers, I still plan on inspiring motorists to pump the breaks while passing by my home.

According to a 2011 report by the National Retail Federation, Americans spend more than $5 billion a year on Christmas decorations. I would guess December tops all other months for staple gun usage as well.

I say this year, let's start acknowledging entire neighborhoods for their Christmas spirit. I want to hear from you about streets that have impressive light displays. In the coming weeks I will be seeking out, what I consider to be, the neighborhood with the most holiday cheers in Twin Falls.

Please comment if you'd like to nominate any neighborhoods of your own.
