Water Prognosticators Keep An Eye To The Sky

Idaho’s water prognosticators are trying to be optimistic even though the snowpack in Idaho is way below last year.  Water supply specialist Ron Abramovich says snowpack around the state is down considerably from last year and is considerably below average.  The Upper Snake River Basin is at about 72 percent of average and the Salmon Falls Basin is just over 40 percent of average.  The Little Wood Basin is at about 60 percent and the Big Wood Basin is at 70 percent.  But Abramovich says there is still time for the state to catch up.  All we need is one or two good snow storms to get us back to where we need to be.  Thanks to a wet winter and spring last year Idaho’s reservoirs are full to nearly full which will give farmers the needed advantage to get through the growing season unscathed.   He says this is the lowest snowpack in Idaho since 1988 and even then a late season storm helped bring the area up to about 75 percent of normal.
