Watch Dogs Delay was Done for More Ideas and Polish
We have found out that Watch Dog’s delay was done so that many of the ideas introduced later on in the development process would not simply have to be withheld to its sequel.
Speaking with CVG, a senior official at Ubisoft Montreal has come forth saying that the studio would have had to cut several gameplay systems from Watch Dogs if it hit its original launch window of November 2013. At the recent Game Developers Conference last week in California, Lionel Raynaud, Ubisoft’s Vice President of Creative, stated that the Watch Dogs team originally intended to axe certain systems from Watch Dog’s original launch and to only include them on its sequel.
“There were several systems that were not going to be in the game if we released in November,” Raynaud said. “There’s always the discussion of, ‘should we leave them for the sequel, or do we take the time to finish them?’ And we decided to take our time and do it right. It’s made a big difference – we’ve polished everything.” Raynaud has also stated that the delay has given Ubisoft enough time to include the big ideas they wanted to utilize in Watch Dogs but were fearing that they were too late to introduce into the development process. These concepts were originally going to be withheld and introduced in its inevitable sequel.
Watch Dogs will hack its way onto PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on May 27. The Wii U version of Watch Dogs will be coming at a later date.
