Washington Sorority Disciplined for Urinating in North Idaho Park

PULLMAN, Wash. (KTVB) – Washington State University has notified the WSU Chapter of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority that it will be charged with violations after a complaint that students urinated in public during a sorority-sponsored event in Coeur d’ Alene.

The president of the Gamma Eta chapter has been notified that it will face disciplinary charges for disorderly conduct and alcohol violations.

A Coeur d’ Alene resident reported that intoxicated students were observed exiting from a chartered bus and urinating outside in a Coeur d’ Alene City Park on Saturday. The complaint also included pictures of the students’ actions. The witness said the students, wearing Greek letters, peed on a wall before getting on a cruise boat.

WSU Dean of Students Melynda Huskey said WSU’s initial review of the complaint led to the finding that the chapter had sponsored the cruise on Lake Coeur d’ Alene and chartered the buses the accused students were on before the incident at the park.

“We have established that WSU students were involved in the public urination incident and the WSU Office of Student Standards and Accountability has sent notice of charges to the president of the sorority,” Huskey said. “Additional disciplinary actions may be taken as more information becomes available to us, particularly if we are able to confirm the identities of individual students.”

She said if students and student organizations are found responsible, they face a variety of possible sanctions under WSU’s student conduct code, ranging from warnings and probation to mandatory community service and suspension or expulsion.

Coeur d’Alene police are not investigating the incident. Department leaders said nobody filed a police report about anyone urinating in the park. KREM 2 News was told that Coeur d’Alene’s mayor and police chief planned to contact WSU to share their concerns.
