PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — The man suspected of burning down part of a large Pullman apartment complex has told police he was drunk and that voices in his head told him to start the blaze.

31-year-old Bryan Kitchen was arrested Monday in connection with the arson at The Grove apartments earlier this month. KXLY-TV of Spokane reported that court documents indicate Kitchen told conflicting stories to police officers as he was questioned repeatedly about the fire. He also failed a polygraph test.

Court documents say Kitchen eventually admitted that he intentionally started the fire with his lighter.Documents say Kitchen told officers he had a voice in his head that told him to do bad things. Kitchen is in the Whitman County Jail, and may face federal charges in the case.
