COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Police have released the body camera video from officer Spencer Mortensen's shooting of 35-year-old Eric B. Johnston last Aug. 25. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that police released the video in response to public records requests made by Spokane and Coeur d'Alene media outlets.

The video shows viewers what Mortensen saw and heard before shooting Johnston five times in rapid succession. Special prosecutor Louis Marshall of Bonner County declined to prosecute Mortensen, after finding his "conduct was within the parameters of the laws of the state of Idaho," according to a Nov. 29 letter he sent to Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh.

The shooting happened in an apartment near where Johnston, of Dalton Gardens, had clipped a utility pole with his pickup truck earlier in the morning.
