NAMPA, Idaho (KTVB) -- It seems everyone knows about Idaho's already flourishing craft beer scene, something that really took off when breweries started canning their beer.

Now, a local winery is following suit. On Wednesday, the crew was seen inside the Sawtooth Winery facility in Nampa trying to kick start their assembly line into high gear. Split Rail is one of the smaller wineries in Idaho, producing only about 800 cases of wine a year, but for being so tiny they are on the forefront of something big.

Split Rail started planning for canning months in advance and had to order 55,000 cans specially made from England. The can option also allows Idahoans who love to get outside and recreate to take the wine with them. Each can is 12.7 ounces, so a bit larger than a beer can. It amounts to about two glasses of wine and it will be sold in six packs and four packs. A four pack will probably cost you $24 which he says would equal about two bottles of wine.
