Made in collaboration with Valve, HTC's Vive is going to bring serious competition to the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus in the upcoming virtual reality war.

The Verge reports that HTC has formally unveiled the Vive, its VR headset that it has been making with Valve. HTC has also announced that it will be having playable, working Vive demos at the Game Developers Conference next week. The Vive contains a gyrosensor, laser tracker and accelerometer to precisely track your cranium's movements while wearing the headset. It will feature two 1200 x 1080 displays that have a 90 frames per second refresh rate, allowing full, 360 degree VR motion. Its creators claim it will offer a "full room-scale" VR experience. This will allow you to walk around your room (and trip over all sorts of junk) and feel immersed in virtual reality. The developer edition of the Vive headset has headphone jacks, but the final consumer version will feature its own earphones in the headset itself.

"We believe that virtual reality will totally transform the way that we interact with the world. Virtual reality will become a mainstream technology for the rest of the world," said HTC CEO Peter Chou.

Based on HTC's trailer for the Vive, we can expect it to hit store shelves just in time for the 2015 holiday season. Speaking of stores, Valve is making its own VR game distribution platform, the SteamVR.

Owlchemy Labs has announced Job Simulator, which is gearing up for a Vive and Oculus Rift release via SteamVR (and is the first game announced for the Vive so far). Not much is known about Job Simulator other than it taking place in the future. A computer system will guide you through a bunch of tasks to remind you of how much it sucks to work a remedial nine to five. The only content we've seen of Job Simulator shows off what it's like to work as a chef. Here's to hoping there's not a garbage man chapter of the game.
