A new developer diary has cropped up for Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Ubisoft's upcoming World War I adventure game.

In this first developer diary episode, we meet a bunch of the crew from Ubisoft and find out their thoughts on the game, bits about the art style and their overall goal of creating an engaging, enlightening and emotional story for gamers.

Community Specialist Kevin Erwin talks about how the idea for the game and its visuals came from Art Director Paul Tumelaire, whose comic book-style aesthetics for the game were born out of research and concept art. The end result was a look that gives off an emotional edge.

At its core, Valiant Hearts: The Great War is about a few ordinary people who are tossed into the war and made to endure extraordinary circumstances. While the characters are fictional, they were inspired by real people who experienced very real events during the war. Being that a lot of the development team's grandparents were involved in the war in one way or another, they felt that the story needed to be told, especially because World War I hasn't had a very big presence in the gaming world.

Watch the developer diary above and look out for Valiant Hearts: The Great War as a digital download on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on June 25, 2014.
