Utah Might Dump Daylight Saving Time

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert has signed a measure to study whether Utah should continue to observe daylight saving time. Herbert's office announced Wednesday that he has given final approval to the measure. Garland Republican Rep. Ronda Menlove sponsored the bill during the legislative session. She says it gives people with opinions about the practice an opportunity to voice their concerns or support. Menlove says proposals to stop observing daylight saving time have been unsuccessfully introduced at the Legislature many times in recent years. She says a public meeting will allow anyone frustrated with current state protocol to make their case. The proposal also requires the governor's economic development office to make a recommendation about any future action on daylight savings. The Governor's Office of Economic Development will schedule the meeting.
