Police have identified the teenager who led them on a multi-county high speed chase on I-84 over the weekend. 18-year-old David J. Miller of Filer faces several charges in connection with Sunday’s high speed. Police say the chase began in Jerome when Miller called 911 to say he had stolen his mother’s car. Miller told dispatch he wanted to turn himself in to authorities.  But when officers approached Miller’s vehicle on westbound I-84 near exit 168 in Jerome, they say he took off and brandished what officers thought was a handgun. The gun later turned out to be an airsoft pistol. Authorities were finally able to stop the suspect with a pit maneuver around 4:30 p.m. at mile post 98 just east of Mountain Home. The suspect was taken into custody and then taken to the Elmore County Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was released from the medical center and booked into the Jerome County Jail. So far Miller faces aggravated assault, felony eluding an officer, driving without privileges and possession of a stolen vehicle.. The crash started a 20-acre fire in the area after Miller’s car sparked and caught fire.
