An armed suspect is in custody after holding a hostage inside a Twin Falls Hotel. One hostage was involved in the incident. Police say the hostage has been released and is unharmed. Twin Falls Police said at a news conference this afternoon that an unidentified male, NOT the suspect, was shot and killed during the ordeal.

Authorities say the incident started with a routine traffic stop around 8:00 this morning. An officer suspected the driver, in his 20’s, had been drinking. The suspect drove off and a high speed chase ensued. Speeds during the chase reached at least hundred miles per hour. One witness says that the suspect hit a parked recreational vehicle with his vehicle. There is a report that a woman was inside the RV and suffered minor injuries. At least one other vehicle, an SUV, was also hit during the chase.

Officer Luke Allen with the Twin Falls police department says there was also a passenger inside the suspect’s vehicle and is in police custody. The suspect entered the Hampton Inn at around 8:15 a.m. An Idaho State Police officer was shot in the leg at some point during the chase, and taken to a local hospital. The suspect was taken into custody at around 11:30 this morning after negotiations with police. The area around the hotel was cordoned off. The Hotel, nearby Chevron parking lot, and nearby Holiday Inn Express were evacuated. Hotel patrons were relocated to a local church during the incident.
