BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's Democratic gubernatorial candidate A.J. Balukoff has spent nearly $2 million of his own money lambasting what he describes as Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter's failures, but the amount may still result in a shortfall of votes come November 4th.

Ousting a Republican incumbent in Idaho is difficult in almost any elected office. However, Balukoff says Idahoans are tired of Otter's tenure where Idaho's public schools consistently rank among the lowest in the nation. Meanwhile, Otter argues that he has successfully led Idaho out of the Great Recession and has kept the state attractive to new businesses.

Other Idaho gubernatorial candidates include Libertarian candidate John Bujak, Constitutional candidate Steve Pankey and Independent candidates Jill Humble and a man who legally changed his name to "Prolife." There are also five write-in candidates.
