Uncharted PS4 Remake Possible, but Sony Doesn’t Want to Overdo Current-Gen Upgrades

With games like the Ratchet and Clank remake, Metro Redux and The Last of Us Remastered on the horizon, Sony assured us that it doesn’t want to oversaturate the market with PS3 upgrades when thinking about bringing the original Uncharted to PlayStation 4.

Eurogamer reports that Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s president of worldwide studios, has mentioned the importance of third-party games and PS3 remastered titles in the PS4′s lineup for the rest of the year. He applauds the amount of third-party content coming to PlayStation 4, in particular Bungie’s Destiny. As Halo 1-4, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Raider and Metro 2033 are all being remastered for next-gen releases, a lot of fans are worried that their Xbox One and PS4 libraries are going to be filled with games they’ve already played.

Yoshida speculated on the usefulness of bringing these titles to next-gen while also showing some restraint with regard to flooding the market:

Almost 50 percent of people who have purchased a PS4 didn’t own a PS3, and that’s lots of people that missed exclusive PS3 titles like The Last of Us, so it’s a great way to welcome those people back to PlayStation, saying this is what you missed. There are requests from some consumers for games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted, which people might have missed. That would be a good candidate. We don’t want to flood the market with remade games either.

At the same time, something needs to be done to help facilitate more console exclusives to help drive these systems that doesn’t include the classics of the previous generation. Since so many titles are going for simultaneous release on current and next-gen systems, there are only so many incentives as to why you should specifically own a Xbox One or PS4 while owning a PS3 or Xbox 360.
