‘Unbroken’ Trailer: Preview Angelina Jolie’s Latest Directorial Effort
The first preview for Angelina Jolie‘s latest directorial effort, ‘Unbroken,’ premiered during the 2014 Winter Olympics today — appropriate, as the story of her latest film follows an Olympian who tragically becomes a prisoner of war during World War II. And it looks to be pretty inspirational stuff from the sophomore director and A-list actress, whose debut film, ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey,’ also told a harrowing and inspirational story.
Jolie returns with ‘Unbroken,’ based on the novel of the same name by Laura Hillenbrand, which tells the true story of Olympian Louis “Louie” Zamperini, played by Jack O’Connell. As an added bonus, the script was written by the Coen Brothers, Richard LaGravenese (‘Behind the Candelabra’), with a rewrite by William Nicholson (‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ and ‘Les Miserables’). That is some serious talent right there.
Leading man Jack O’Connell is joined by actors Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund, and Finn Wittrock in what looks to be a moving and intensely powerful film from Jolie. The official synopsis:
Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces “Unbroken,” an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, “Unbroken” brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit.
‘Unbroken’ hits theaters on December 25, 2014.
