UI Says Former Vandals Coach Doesn’t Deserve More Money

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — The University of Idaho says fired football coach Robb Akey doesn’t deserve more money than he’s already gotten from the Moscow school. The Daily News reports the school is fighting Akey’s lawsuit seeking compensation for media participation he maintains he’s due but was never paid.

The UI denied his claim he is owed more pay for public appearances and talking to TV, radio and newspapers about the Vandal team, which was suffering through a disastrous season in 2012 before he was fired in October.

Akey’s record was 20-50 at the school. Akey’s contract, running through 2014, paid him a base salary of nearly $165,800 in state funds, plus an additional $190,000 in media compensation from private donations, for a total of $355,800. The school says it appropriately fired Akey.
