TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) - A major water pipeline broke in South Twin Falls forcing road closures and traffic delays. The city is now imposing mandatory water restrictions.

Update (9/23/14 @ 9:16a) - According to Twin Falls City Spokesperson, Josh Palmer, the boil order has been lifted, however residents are encouraged to continue to conserve water. Also, the intersection of Orchard and Washington in Twin Falls is still closed. Crews are hoping to have the intersection reopened by next week. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

Update (9/23/14 @ 9:02a) - According to Josh Palmer, City spokesperson, the boil order has lifted.

Update (9/22/14 @ 10:13a) - Residents living near the main waterline rupture at Orchard and Washington Street South are reporting a complete water outage. City crews are working to restore water to those affected.

Update (9/22/14 @ 9:56a) - A mandatory boil order issued for Twin Falls south of Park Ave on south. We will have more information as it becomes available.

Update (9/22/14 @ 9:40a) - Orchard and Washington intersection closed at this time.

Update (9/22/14 @ 9:07a) - City of Twin Falls is asking residence to conserve water. Turn off irrigation systems. Do not use water unnecessarily. City Spokesperson Josh Palmer encouraging people to use bottled water.

Palmer reports that the water is safe to drink if residents absolutely have to. You can still flush toilets and wash hands, but it is important to CONSERVE WATER. Don’t waste it.

The waterline used for mixing water was affected and it will take time to repair line. Pressure will be low as repairs are made.

According to Josh Palmer, a 24 inch pipe ruptured a little after 8am near the intersection of Orchard and Washington Street South. Traffic heading north on Washington is closed to traffic. Drivers will need to find alternate routes around the affected area.

Crews do not know what caused the rupture. Some school buses are expected to be late this morning for school. Residents living in South Twill Falls may experience some reduction in water pressure and are urged to conserve water wherever possible.
