Twin Falls RadioShack to Close
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – About six months ago, Corey Whisler landed a full-time job at RadioShack. Now he’s looking for other employment because the Twin Falls store will be closing its doors on Sunday.
The store is one of about 200 the company is closing across the country. The reason is the same that other now-shuttered retailers have faced: RadioShack is looking to file bankruptcy as in-store sales continue on a downward trend.
Whisler, a full-time sales associate at the store, said employees found out about the closing within just the past week or so. When clearance signs went up employees were first told the store would be receiving new inventory, but they soon thereafter received news that their store was one of many that would close.
“It’s a little disappointing,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed my time here. RadioShack has been a niche market for a lot of customers. But it’s all going online now.”
This isn’t the first time that RadioShack, based in Fort Worth, Texas, sought bankruptcy, according to a Wall Street Journal article. The first time was in February 2015 when it sold some 2,400 of its stores to now-parent company General Wireless Operations Inc.
Besides Twin Falls, Whisler said he heard that one of three stores in Ada County also will close. CNN posted a map of stores that are scheduled to close.
News Radio 1310 has reached out to General Wireless, and will post more information as it becomes available.
