TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)- Several people were sent to the hospital after a car collided head on with an ambulance. According to Idaho State Police the crash happened at around 1:19pm Tuesday near Indian Valley, North of Boise. Police say a Council Ambulance was headed South transporting a patient with emergency lights on.

ISP says Samuel McCartney, 36 of Twin Falls was going North in a car when he braked and swerved into the Southbound lane to avoid a car that was yielding to the oncoming ambulance.

That is when the two vehicles hit head one. The driver of the ambulance Charles Penniger, 66 of Council as well as the person being transported and two EMTs were taken to the hospital. The Twin Falls man and his passenger went to the hospital in a private car. The highway had to be shut down for about 5 hours.
