Twin Falls Council Open Liquor Sales on Holidays and Elections

TWIN FALLS, Id ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) For decades the liquor laws in the city of Twin Falls have remained almost unchanged, but now many people have raised concerns that the current laws may be outdated.

State law prohibits the selling of liquor–by–the–drink on certain holidays, election days, or past 1:00 AM, but each city and county in the state has the ability to amend the law. In Monday night’s city council meeting a public hearing on this topic was held and the issue put to a vote. The council voted to allow sales on Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and election days, but did vote down the time extension to 2:00 AM.

"I think that these kinds of laws that restrict alcohol sales depending on the kind of alcohol are out dated. You can order a beer, you can order a glass of wine, but you can't have a margarita on these days,” said Councilman Shawn Barigar.

The last time a change was made to the city laws regarding the sale of liquor–by–the–drink were in 2006 when the city council approved sales on Sundays.
