Trial of Man in Missing Mom Case Cost More than Expected

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho county spent about $200,000 more than it budgeted to pay for the defense of a man ultimately convicted of killing his estranged wife.

The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports in a story on Friday that Latah County has spent about $340,000 on the defense for Charles Capone of Moscow. Capone was convicted Sept. 17 of killing 40-year-old Rachael Anderson from Clarkston, Washington, in April 2010.

The body of the mother of four hasn't been found. Latah County Clerk Susan Peterson says the county is using money from its general fund to make up the difference. The county also spent about $20,000 on juror attendance, mileage and supplies. Capone is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 5.
