Trace Adkins has a rough and tumble image, but underneath it all, the big and burly, deep-voiced singer is a teddy bear. He showed off his thoughtful side during the 'CMA Country Christmas' special on Monday (Dec. 2) by performing 'Silent Night,' one of the most serious songs of the season.

Adkins partnered with Lily Costner for the song, and their voices were complimentary. His booming baritone added a layer of emotional weight to this beloved, cherished-to-the-point-of-being-sacred hymn.

The beefiness of Adkins' voice was balanced beautiful by Costner's softer voice, but that wasn't the only demonstration of light touch.

We got to see the softer, more contemplative side of Adkins with this 2013 'CMA Country Christmas' performance. It's not extremely uncommon or super rare to see him go this route, but every time he does, he bowls us over with his richness of tone and timber.
