GARDEN CITY, Idaho (KTVB) -- A five-year-old remains in stable condition at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center after a dog attack that happened earlier Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities continue to investigate the apparent unprovoked attack of the girl by a mixed breed pit bull. The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. in a residence off of Smoky Way in Garden City. The attack does not come as a surprise to neighbor Sharee Montgomery. "The dog almost attacked our two-year-old daughter about two months ago," Montgomery said.

According to investigators at the scene, the child was accompanied by her parent or guardian and is well known to the animal socially. They had stopped at the home this afternoon and were invited inside. The child was attacked without provocation, Lt. Tom Patterson said.

The child was transported by family members to the hospital where she remains in guarded condition at this time. The animal has been quarantined at the City Animal Shelter while authorities investigate, Patterson said. No charges have been filed.
