‘The Raid’ Remake Casts ‘Captain America 2′ Star Frank Grillo

Marvel

Indonesian flick ‘The Raid‘ was a surprise hit with its totally insane action sequences, and while we’ve been somewhat wary of an American remake, this first bit of casting news has us feeling a little more confident. A shortlist was floated around a while back, and now we know at least one of those names has officially joined up: ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ star Frank Grillo.

In an interview with We’ve Got This Covered, Grillo confirms that he has indeed joined the cast of the U.S. remake of ‘The Raid,’ and he’s got a very particular set of skills that might come in handy to ensure maximum action satisfaction:

What people don’t know is that I’m a blackbelt in jujitsu, which I’ve been for 20 years, and I’ve been boxing since I’ve been 15 years old – those are things that come natural to me. Believe it or not, I just got hired to do [the remake of] The Raid…I loved [the original]…we’ve got to do this justice. It’s a fanboy favorite.

And since he’s a fan of Gareth Evans’ original film, that also makes us feel a little better about the project, which is being helmed by Patrick Hughes, who also helmed the upcoming ‘Expendables 3.’ Grillo’s star has been on the rise in recent years with notable roles in ‘Warrior,’ ‘The Grey,’ and as the nefarious HYDRA agent Brock Rumlow (aka Crossbones) in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’ He can be seen next in ‘The Purge: Anarchy.’

Other names on the shortlist for ‘The Raid’ included Ethan Hawke, Luke Evans, and fellow ‘Captain America 2′ star Anthony Mackie, but there’s no word yet if any of those actors will be joining Grillo in the remake.
