The Good, The Bad, and the Sith: The Other Things You’ll See in 3D During ‘Star Wars – Episode I’
'Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace' is re-released to theaters today in 3D and is sure to have a lot of mind-blowing sequences. I bet the Pod Racing sequence on Tattooine, the lightsaber duel between Darth Maul, Qui Gon Jinn, and Obi Wan Kenobi, and the space battle above Naboo will be three of the most talked about. But what about the other things that are also now in 3D? Strap in and prepare to make the jump to lightspeed: here's my top 5 list of the other things you'll see in 'Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,' whether you want to or not.
Darth Maul's Teeth
Apparently the Sith Empire doesn't offer any kind of dental insurance because Darth Maul's teeth are wickedly bad. Luckily, he doesn't have many lines, but he does spend a good portion of his screen time sneering. In 3D!
Jabba the Hutt
This intergalactic gangster is basically a giant slug. While nowhere near as vile as he was in 'Return of the Jedi', Jabba does bite off the head off a small desert creature and spit it at the gong to start the Pod Race Sequence. Keep it classy Jabba. Keep it classy.
Democracy in 3D
I'm not sure about you, but I don't get the urge to turn on C-SPAN in 3D very often... or ever. So while 'Episode I' does have some stunning action scenes, it also has some of the most mind numbing. Yes, you will have to watch 'Queen Amidala' go before the Galactic Senate and beg for an injunction... IN 3D!
Jar Jar Binks
I'm going to come right out and say it: I'm not a Jar Jar hater. The amount of sheer venom this character created after the films initial release was insane, including reports that he was a vicious racist stereotype. But just know that if you see 'Star Wars: Episode I' in 3D you will have to endure Jar Jar all over again. And he steps in poo. IN 3D.
I actually feel really bad saying this about a 10 year old, but Jake Lloyd was terrible as Anakin Skywalker. I understand this isn't Shakespeare, but I've seen some amazing child actors. Even the 'I-see-dead-people" kid, Haley Joel Osment, was better. And you get to see his amazing performance, including the scene where he shouts "wizard," IN GLORIOUS 3D!
