July 2014 marks yet another month with PlayStation 4 beating Xbox One in the next-gen console war, mainly due to Naughty Dog's re-masterpiece, The Last of Us Remastered.

Joystiq reports NPD has revealed its sales figures for the month of July 2014, indicating a much-needed rise in numbers sold for both consoles and software. To no surprise, PlayStation 4 console sales have slumped Xbox One yet again for the seventh month in a row. We have a feeling this will continue to happen until November, when Halo: The Master Chief Collection debuts. Even by that point, it will be well into the holiday season, and console sales will jump on both ends. Not to mention, it's technically not a new game.

Sunset Overdrive (an Xbox One exclusive) looks impressive, but not enough to pull Xbox over Sony, and if Titanfall couldn't do it when it debuted this past March, then the only other Xbox star that has a chance is our favorite Spartan. If the Master Chief Collection doesn't help Xbox One overtake Sony in sales numbers in November, we might see PlayStation continuously win the next-gen console war straight until the release of Halo 5.

The PlayStation 4's win for July can be attributed to The Last of Us Remastered, the game's re-release on PS4 with update graphics and content. Many Xbox 360 players who got a PS4 never played the Last of Us when it launched on PS3 last year, so the Remastered version was the perfect way for them to experience Joel and Ellie's troubled story.

Unfortunately, NPD notes software sales declined for most other games except for The Last of Us Remastered. Then again, Most of the games on July's top 10 best-selling games have all been out for quite some time.

"Hardware sales doubled in July 2014 (vs. July 2013), stemming from growth in eighth generation console sales which offset declines in seventh generation console and portable hardware," said NPD analyst Liam Callahan. Callahan claims that the combined numbers of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles sold, after nine months of release, are now 80 percent higher than the previous generation's.
