We haven't made too much of Cinemax's forthcoming medical period drama, 'The Knick,' which is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Clive Owen, though the first trailer certainly inspires at least a bit of confidence and some stellar production value. See for yourself with a first look at Owen carving up the streets of old New York as 'The Knick.'

Debuting August 8 and set in 1900s downtown New York, the 10-episode Cinemax series chronicles “a tumultuous time of massive change and great progress” through the story of Knickerbocker Hospital's groundbreaking staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. In addition to Owen, 'The Knick' stars André Holland, Eve Hewson, Juliet Rylance, Jeremy Bobb, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, Maya Kazan, Leon Addison Brown and Matt Frewer

Jack Amiel and Michael Begler act as writers and executive producers along with Owen and Soderbergh, as well as Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Soderbergh’s longtime producer Gregory Jacobs.

The production value of old New York certainly looks impressive, but what do you think? Does Clive Owen's 'The Knick' look up to code? Check out the first bloody trailer above, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
