Let's be honest: we've all done it. We've taken a call or glanced at a text message while driving. Not only is it illegal, but it's potentially deadly.

This great short film created by TED and Toyota, explains what happens to our brains when we're "multitasking." You see, the human brain really isn't wired to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously. Instead, we switch back and forth between them quickly.

That's what makes talking on a cell phone and driving a bad combination. Both are complex tasks that require all of our attention.

So next time you receive a call or an alert on your phone while driving... ignore it. Call them back when you get home, safe and sound, and in one piece.
